Revolutionary Reads for Independence Day

Light up your 4th of July with some hot reads! In honor of the United States’ biggest bash, I decided to put together a themed reading list this year, and will be posting reviews of the books throughout the month of July.

A surprisingly tough theme

Disclaimer: Going into this idea, I got really excited about finding some new reads set in an era I’m not terribly familiar with, however, I quickly discovered this was trickier than it appeared in my mind’s eye. I was able to find plenty of books set in the late 1700’s, but almost none dealing specifically with the Revolutionary War as a backdrop. Those which did, often focused on British officers and piracy. While I don’t mind, it didn’t seem quite right for my focus on the American side of things. Eventually, I had to make some choices, so I’m looking forward to the following books and hoping some of you might be able to make suggestions for next year’s list in the comments.

My Holiday Reading Picks:

So, apparently, the British lost the war even with vampires on their side. As my kid brother would say (with fist raised): ‘Merica!

This tale of a daring woman spy and the immortal Hessian officer who falls in love with her will definitely spark some fireworks for you holiday!

Exiled by British aristocracy, reunited in the powder keg of revolutionary America, will two fated lovers find the strength to stand against the society that rejected them, or will the spark of their love set off a catastrophic explosion?

*NOTE!* This is part of one of the few Revolutionary War series I was able to find, so I’ll definitely be reading more of this author!

On the eve of war between the British crown and its colonies, a disgraced Buccaneer’s daughter and the British Naval officer she’s taken hostage must decide which side they are on and whether or not they can overcome their pasts to find love.

This one sounded very similar to the above, so I was curious to make a comparison.

A noble sea captain lives in the shadow of his pirate ancestor in Revolutionary War America – and must fight for his life and love.

A woman living a double life – one whose secrets could get her killed if they ever get out. Can she trust the dark stranger who offers the only chance to escape?

I’m looking forward to this list, the Revolutionary War is not an era I’m very familiar with and I’m sure to find some pleasant surprises! Let me know if you have read/are planning to read any of these and make sure to post your thoughts below!
